Professional Bio
Dr. Ara Tekian (tekian@uic.edu) is Professor of medical education and the Associate Dean for the Office of International Education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Tekian is an internationally recognized scholar and leader in health professions education. He has organized and conducted over 350 workshops in more than 45 countries and 60 cities, as well as presented over 300 keynote addresses nationally and internationally. He has over 170 peer-reviewed publications and is the Principal Investigator of 15 research and training grants totaling over 5 million U.S. Dollars. His consultations and workshops have focused on curriculum development, assessment, program evaluation, leadership, simulations, underrepresented minorities, and international medical education. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Springer-ICPE Book Series. He has received numerous honors and awards including the 2012 ASME (Association for the study of Medical Education) Gold Medal Award, the AERA’s Distinguished Career Award, and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2017.
