David A. Cook, M.D., M.H.P.E., is an internist who conducts research in medical education. The training of physicians is receiving increased attention. More effective and efficient ways are needed to teach medical students, postgraduate trainees, physicians in practice and other health professionals. Also needed are ways to assess their strengths and weaknesses to certify competence and identify areas for remediation.
