Associate Professor - National University of Singapore

Professional Bio

Jeanette is an Associate Professor at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. She is currently the Programme Director for Year 1 of the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) Undergraduate Programme. Having been with the department since 2008, A/Prof Ignacio was extensively involved in the Master of Nursing (Advanced Practice Nursing) Critical Care Specialisation during the programme’s initial run. Having attended formal courses in simulations, she was one of the first few to utilise high fidelity simulations in her pedagogy, and has successfully incorporated this strategy in the postgraduate critical care modules that she has coordinated. Subsequently, she also applied simulation-based learning to the undergraduate modules that she has taught. A/Prof Ignacio has also taught medical students using simulation and because of her adeptness with this pedagogical approach, she has been invited to conduct simulation workshops locally and internationally, such as in Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines. She has also published simulation-related research in high impact peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research findings in reputable international medical, nursing and health professions education conferences in Europe and the United States. Presently, Jeanette is focused on integrating Pathophysiology with Pharmacology and Nursing Practice within the three-year undergraduate nursing programme. She has developed and implemented strategies in these modules that facilitate cognitive integration. These strategies aim to link basic science knowledge to nursing practice. Her recent publications, in fact, highlight the approaches she has utilised to assist students in cognitively integrating knowledge from various modules thus preparing them to be well equipped for clinical practice. Jeanette has also been a recipient of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine’s Teaching Excellence Award twice as well as a recipient of educational grants and funding, either as a principal investigator or as a co-investigator.
