Dr Luan Nhut Au was born in 1963. Dr Au is a lecturer at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City (UMP), in charge of giving lectures, ensuring student assessment quality and working on curriculum development at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In 1987, he accomplished his undergraduate training in medicine at UMP. Months later, he became a UMP faculty. In 1994, Dr Au started his post-graduate training in reproductive medicine at the University of Rene Descartes (Paris, France) and accomplished it in 1999. Dr Au progressively develops his point of view on teaching and learning approaches during his teaching career. In the beginning, he used lecture-based approaches to teach Obstetrics and Gynaecology to undergraduates. In 2010, at the University of Ludwig-Maximillian (LMU, Munich, Germany), he attended a series of special training courses in medical education that focused on problem-based learning (PBL). In the following years, Dr Au introduced PBL into the UMP Obstetrics and Gynaecology curriculum. In 2012, at DUKE-NUS (Singapore), he attended a 3-tier team-based learning (TBL) fellowship program and accomplished it three years later. During his fellowship, Dr Au built the first Obstetrics and Gynaecology TBL curriculum. In 2016, as deputy head of the Department of OB-GYN, he started up UMP undergraduate Obstetrics and Gynaecology TBL curriculum. In 2019, Dr Au built up special courses in reproductive medicine based on the TBL approach. In 2022, he achieved the first systematic curriculum revision. Dr Au gave several talks on medical education, domestically and internationally. On the other hand, Dr Au actively works in the domain of quality assurance. He attended and accomplished an AUN-QA 3-tier training program on quality assurance in higher education (Thailand). Later, Dr Au participated in UMP’s medical program accreditation activities and contributed to the success of accreditation. Dr Au also contributed to the accreditation processes of the other UMP Departments. Besides his educational activities, Dr Au actively works in the domain of reproductive medicine. He is a recognized expert in this domain. Dr Au is also a steering committee member elected of the Hochiminh City Society for Reproductive Medicine (HOSREM).
