Professional Bio
Richard Hankins is the Head of Assessment in the Revalidation and Registration Directorate at the GMC. In his role he is responsible for the design and delivery of a range of exams. This includes the PLAB exam taken by overseas medical graduates and the Revalidation Assessment. Richard’s teams also develop the content for the Tests of Competence which are utilised in fitness to practise investigations. His team are currently developing a new exam for Anaesthesia Associates which will become a newly regulated profession in the near future. Prior to joining the GMC Richard worked for the Red Cross and in medical publishing. He has a Ph.D. in medical humanities from the University of Manchester and is broadly interested in the design and delivery of exams to large and small cohorts.
