This workshop provides participants with foundational knowledge and practical examples of applying the Rasch model (Rasch, 1960/1980) and its extension to the many Facet Rasch model (Linacre, 1988) for quality assurance and improvement of assessments in health professional programs. The Rasch model and its variants are a feature of Rasch measurement theory that focuses on creating linear measures of latent constructs frequently targeted in assessing competence: e.g. knowledge, skills and, increasingly, examiner severity. The Rasch model can be used in the context of written and clinical assessments and in the development and analysis of survey data and the construction of measurement scales.
